Royal Wedding

I didn’t get up at 3 am this morning to watch the Royal Wedding. I didn’t set my DVR to record it. When I finally awoke and turned on the TV the wedding was over. I watched as Will and Kate rode to Buckingham Palace, and I even saw them kiss, but I didn’t put too much effort into the whole ordeal. When they said that William was the last person on earth to see Kate’s dress, they were wrong, he saw it several hours before I did.

But despite all this, there is a level of fascination that I can understand with the Royal Wedding that happened today. One thing that struck me was how this event seemed to wrap up all that it means to be British, the kind of thing that doesn’t come along all the time, and I can see why the English took great pride in the wedding today. Here in the states, there was another element that seemed to capture everyone’s hearts, the fairytale part. Kate woke up this morning a commoner and will go to bed a princess. This is the stuff of fairy tale, and my daughter and I got to enjoy seeing a real life princess as we ate our pop tarts this morning.

I think it is this notion that is at the heart of the gospel. We, insignificant and sinful as we are, have been given the opportunity to interact with the God of the universe in such a way that all our sin has been paid for on the cross. The moment I put my faith in Christ I go from enemy of God to child of God. A child of the King, not of England but of the universe. A real life fairytale come true, and an eternity in heaven with my Father to look forward to.
