Our Newest American Idol

I am sitting at my desk, listening to the new Scotty McCreary song that I downloaded this morning. In case you’ve been living in a shielded compound in Pakistan (although bin Laden even had cable) Scotty is the American Idol Season 10 winner. I love American Idol, and even though I don’t like country music, there is just something about this young man that draws me in.

He has the perfect country voice; he was born to sing country music. I remember when he first auditioned. After he left the room, Jennifer Lopez said to her fellow judges “We discovered him.” And she was right. But not only is he a great singer, he’s a great person. I loved watching him go home for the star treatment as one of the top three, and seeing him become so overwhelmed by what was happening that he couldn’t keep from crying.

I heard an interview with him today where he said “I don’t even want to call this a dream come true, because never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined winning this thing.” I think in life we have our idea of what life is like, and we may even have some big dreams, but when God gets a hold of us and does with our lives what He wants, we can achieve something that we never would have thought possible, even in our wildest dreams. Jesus said that nothing was impossible with God, and I believe it. But I also believe that sometimes our dreams for ourselves are too small, and we need to be willing to let God decide what our dreams need to be so we can be apart of something even bigger.
