Black Friday

This year our youth group is going to be doing something new.  I stole this idea from a friend of mine, but our students will be giving out free coffee and hot chocolate to shoppers trying to snag some Black Friday deals.  This is a way to reach out to our community, showing kindness and love this Christmas.  We’ve also ensured that the coffee is “Fair Trade Certified” which means that it’s good for the growers and good for the environment.  Also, we’re hoping that this little event gives us a chance to talk to somebody about the true gift of Christmas, Jesus Christ.

What’s interesting this year is that Black Friday starts on Thursday.  We will actually be there late Thursday night, giving out beverages until midnight.  I don’t think the students will mind getting together Thursday night instead of early, early, early Friday morning.  After all, once the turkey is eaten and the football has been watched, about 8:00 you get tired of your family anyway and could use a break.

If you are in town and are going to WalMart for deals this year, encourage our students.  Get some coffee or some hot chocolate and tell them how proud you are of them.  I hope to see you there, and Merry Christmas!
