As I
look at my “To Do” list for today, there aren’t all that many items. And I’ve been working on them for hours. In fact I should be working on them now, but
I’m doing this instead. My point is,
very few of those things are done. Some
of them are part of the way done, but most everything seems incomplete. I’m still waiting for the perfect idea for
one item. I left something I need for another
at home. I still haven’t gotten around
to finishing the thing I didn’t finish last week. It’s very frustrating.
As
human beings we get very focused on end results. We want everything to tie up neatly into
complete packages so that we can be done and move on. God seems to be much more interested in the
process. There is a big churchy word
that describes this, “sanctification.”
This is the way that over time believers become more and more like
Jesus. This doesn’t happen instantly,
and we never quite make it. We just
learn to live and love the way He did. Llittle
by little we grow, taking steps backwards and then again forward. We want results, instant life change, but the
truth is we are all incomplete and in the middle of a life long process. So embrace your incompleteness. Don’t be so hard on yourself when you fail,
use it as motivation to suceed the next time.
Don’t be so focused on your past or your future, just do what God is
calling you to do today. This is the
only day quite like today that you will ever get. Use it well.
You are incomplete and in the middle of a process, so every day matters.
