Fireworks

It rained last night, which was awesome but insufficient. It hasn't rained much all year, just over an inch in the last six months. It is so dry that it is dangerous, wildfires are everywhere. As a result, no fireworks this Fourth of July.

But in Amarillo, the burn ban doesn't mean giving up. The traditional fireworks display has been replaced by a laser light show that should be excellent. I think it's a great testimony to our county that when things don't go our way, we find a new way. Rather than give up, the American spirit thinks outside the box and keeps moving forward.

I think this is true about life as well. Lots of things get in our way, and lots of people make life hard. When someone hurts us, it's easy to hold a grudge and throw a pity party. But instead, God tells us to let those things go, and to keep moving forward in our lives. So often we are held down by our own bitterness and unforgiveness, and God wants us to be free of those things. So on a day where we celebrate freedom here in America, set yourself free from the anger and resentment you've been holding on to.

Hey, it's the American way.
