This weekend we took our daughter to see “The Muppets,” the new movie about the classic characters. I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun at a movie. Maybe it was because I got to watch her enjoy it (there was one point she was having so much fun she was kicking her little feet). Maybe it was because the film was full of Muppet inside jokes that I got to feel smart about getting. Or maybe it was because it was a genuinely funny movie.
If you are asking “is this movie for me?” here is a little test. If you do not like the Muppets, then no, it’s not for you. If you LOVE the Muppets, then you’ve probably seen it already. If you like the Muppets, enjoy being entertained, and don’t mind singing and dancing, then yes, this movie is for you. You really should see it.
I have always loved the Muppets, and one of the themes that can be seen over and over again in their films is encouragement to follow your dreams. “I’ve heard it too many times to ignore it,” sings Kermit in The Rainbow Connection, “it’s something that I’m supposed to be.” I believe that God places a dream in all of our hearts, something that we are supposed to be. That dream isn’t always what we want initially for our lives, and we don’t always see it right away, but I believe that God has a purpose and a plan for all of us. When we really start living is when we align our dreams with the dream that God has for us. “Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection. The lovers. The dreamers. And me.”
