I saw my first shooting star last night. I was standing in the parking lot at church after the service talking to some friends when someone pointed it out. I had never seen one, and it was amazing. I had heard about shooting stars, but seeing one was way better than I ever imagined it would be. In fact, the guys said it was the longest, brightest shooting star that they had ever seen. It was a really cool moment.
But the funny thing about a shooting star is that when we see one, we know that it is the end of that star. The star is burning out in a fabulous and extraordinary way, marking its end with a fireworks show to end all fireworks shows. It’s a beautiful way to go.
After we saw it, I started thinking about beautiful endings. Some of my closest friends are planning on moving soon, and it saddens me to think about those relationships ending, or at least not being able to be as strong as they once were. But the thing about it is, I can see how God is moving and working in all of their lives. And so even though it’s an ending for me, and it’s a little difficult, I know that it is beautiful.
