In case you hadn’t heard, our church got robbed this week. You know it’s never good when you get a phone call from a co-worker at 6:15 am on Friday, which is our day off. I went down in sweats and talked to the police. They had stolen two TVs and two laptops, including mine. I answered all their questions, and tried to make sure we knew exactly what was stolen. Several hours later I realized that they had taken the candy that I give away as prizes on Wednesday night. Well, not all of it, they left the Skittles. I really wish I had noticed that when the police were there, I would have been like “hey, I’ve got a break in the case. We’re looking for a suspect who does NOT like Skittles.”
Kudos to our police department, they caught the guys later that day. I got my laptop back (and I am typing this on it now). I am especially glad about this because it’s been about a year since I backed up my music library, and that would have been a lot of songs missing. I even got the candy back, which was a bonus.
But I think the biggest thing is what they didn’t steal. Not only are all my songs on this computer, but there is a portable hard drive with all our pictures since before we were married connected to the computer. When I got into my office on Friday, it took me a second to find it, and I knew there was a very real possibility that they were all gone. The laptop, the songs, even the candy can be replaced. Those pictures, on the other hand, were priceless. I guess that’s why Jesus told us not to store up treasures on earth where thieves could break in and steal. He wants us to focus our lives not on the material things, but on the things that are truly priceless.
oh i thought that was an other church.
