DIY

Happy Halloween everyone! We have spent the last several weeks getting ready for the “Trunk or Treat” happening at church tonight. If you’ve never experienced a “Trunk or Treat” before, then you and I are in the same boat. It is something that lots of churches do, though, where people decorate their trunks and hand out candy in the church parking lot. We want to make sure our trunk is fun and not too scary, but still entertaining for the kiddos.

We bought some things to go in our trunk to decorate, but we also made some stuff, too. I had seen these signs at Disney World for their Halloween celebration, and I wanted something similar. I had a specific idea of what I wanted, and I just couldn’t get it from the store. So I bought some craft supplies and went to work. Between my wife and me, we made some pretty cool glow-in-the-dark ghost signs with the phrases we picked out in the color scheme we had in mind. Sure, I could have gotten some pre-made decoration, and it probably would have looked better than my home-made version, but it wouldn’t have been what I really wanted.

Sometimes in life it’s easy to just settle for what is the easiest. We take that which is readily available instead of putting in the effort to get what is best. So often we get sidetracked by the easy and affordable instead of the perfect will of God. Yeah, it may take a little elbow grease, a little blood, sweat, and glow-paint, but it is always worth it in the end. When it comes to your choices today (and every day) don’t settle.
