First Day of School

Today was the first day of school. Another school year, another fresh start. The first day of school represents endless potential. This could be a totally awesome year.

Or it could suck.

Who knows? No one really. The school year is just beginning, and what stands before all those students and teachers is a series of choices. What we choose to do represents who we are going to be this year. We can’t choose what will happen to us, but we can choose how we will respond to it.

One of my favorite verses in the Bible about choices is Deuteronomy 30:19, where God says “This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” God has told us how to live, and He did that so we could experience what real life is all about. Often, through our choices, we choose to die a little more each day because we’re choosing things that are outside God’s plan. This year, if we’re students, teachers, or we haven’t been in school for a long time, let’s all choose life by choosing to live God’s way.
