Little Hours
I spend a lot of time thinking about my future. I think about what my job, family, and life will be like in five, ten, even twenty years. I think about what my kids are going to grow up to be. I think about what God might use me to do with my life.
And sometimes I want that future right now.
It’s in those moments that I think about what I call the “little hours” that make up our lives. Each hour that we have we spend on different things each day. Like money, we hand out our hours to our jobs, our families, and ourselves. We spend each little hour here and there, and when the day is over we’ve spent another 24 little hours that we can’t get back.
Every time I find myself spending my little hours thinking about what the future will bring, I realize that I’m wasting that hour on something unknown when I could be using it for something right now. I’ve got a family right now, and even though I wonder what it will look like in the future, I’ve only got a few hours today to give to my girls and I want them to be the best hours they can be. So in five, ten, twenty years I will know that I spent each little hour that made up each of those years the very best way that I could. It doesn’t take long for those little hours to add up to a lifetime, and I want to make the most of mine.
