I can. It’s in 1 Chronicles 29:11-12. It’s also in the margins, footnotes, the commentary at the bottom of the page, and it has seeped into parts of 1 Chronicles 28 on the other side.
You see, I spilled coffee on my Bible this morning when I was trying to read it. I don’t even really know what happened. I swear, the coffee practically jumped out of my cup. I always drink it out of one of those travel mugs, and so there was only a tiny little hole for it to come out of anyway, but I must have picked it up funny and it just sloshed out.
At first I was really upset. I mean, this is the Word of God, and I got Abyssinian Mocha with Hazelnut creamer all over it. Plus, it’s a new Bible, and I wanted it to be nice. And then I realized that there wasn’t really anything to be worried about. I would much rather my Bible be read every day and have a few coffee stains in it than to be pristine because it sits on a shelf. So bring on the coffee, dog-ears, rips, folds, creases, wrinkles, blood, sweat, and tears. Bibles were never meant to be kept in mint condition, they were meant to be studied and then lived out. So I’ll take a broken and bruised Bible any day if it means that day is different because of the insight I got from it that morning.
Oh man, I just spilled coffee on my shirt!
Eric,
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Love your joy. Let's grab a cup of coffee sometime before we become old and boring.
Blessings,
