Life through Christ

This morning my daughter told me that Jesus died on the cross for our sins.  It’s not that I didn’t know this, but it’s good knowing that she knows, even if she isn’t old enough yet to completely understand it.  I told her that He died so that we could have life, and this got my brain turning.  I started thinking of all the blessings that I have, you know, all the ways that God has given me life through His death.

First of all, my salvation is the most obvious blessing that has come from Christ’s death on the cross.  The fact that while I was still a sinner He died for me continues to confound me.  I have no idea why He would love me that much, but He does and I am so grateful for it.

But then I thought about my family.  My girls are the three most important people on this planet to me.  I love them completely.  And each of them is a blessing from God, and His death on the cross allows me to experience my life with them more fully.  Following Christ truly is more abundant living, especially in terms of family.
I could write forever about all the blessings that I have, but one more important one is our church.  For our family, this is not only our place of worship; it’s my place of employment.  I have the best job in the world, and I love the staff I work with and the great people that make up our church.  I hope that the blessing my family brings to this church is a fraction of the blessing that our church has been to us.  And it was through Christ’s death on the cross that we could live in such a wonderful faith community.

Praise be to Jesus Christ, who gave me life through His death!
