Yesterday in church
Shonn from Team Impact gave a great message.
As a part of his talk, he mentioned that only 10% of Christians share
their faith. He went on to deduce from
this that “the average Christian” doesn’t tell anyone about Jesus. This phrase made him smile, as he realized
that there is nothing average about following Christ, but that the journey of
spirituality is something supernatural.
This got me thinking (a
dangerous pastime, I know). Many people
from our church shared with me how awesome the Team Impact events were this
weekend. From volunteering in the school
assemblies to leading people to Christ, many of us experienced the power of God
in a new way this weekend. And then we
topped it all off with a great worship service on Sunday, very powerful. Many of us had a supernatural, supercharged
weekend that was anything but average.
I think that because the
average Christian doesn’t tell anyone about Jesus, then the average Christian
leads an indisputably average life. As a
result, the average Christian has an average view of God and average church
commitment. The excitement and enthusiasm
that many of us experienced this weekend is an example of what Christianity is
supposed to be. It was never meant to be
average. As we engage in God’s will for
our lives and seek to serve Him in powerful ways, He takes our lives from
average to supernatural.
