Making Movies

I haven’t been blogging because I’ve been making a video series about blogging.

You see, last week we started filming the second season of our video series “Haters” to be shown on Wednesday nights in April.  The series is based around a character that bears my name, but that experiences a little more difficulty in life than I do.  He seems to run into trouble around every corner, and then he goes and blogs about it.  The plots are goofy, and the characters even more so, but it’s a lot of fun.  I think this season is going to be even better than the first, and that’s saying a lot.  If you want to catch up on the first season, click here: http://vimeo.com/search?q=haters+brandon+garcia

Making these short movies is a lot of fun, but it’s also a lot of time and effort.  We’ve spent hours creating shots that will be on the screen for mere seconds.  But if something is worth doing than it is worth doing right.  After all, there are no shortcuts to quality, which is what we always aim for.  Sure, we could do things the easy way, make everything on the cheap, but where would be the fun in that?

Creating a genuine relationship with God works the same way.  Often we want to do it the “easy” way, just showing up to church when it is convenient.  But cultivating a meaningful spiritual life takes work, time, and intentionality.  Our lives will be better for it (which is the point we often miss), but that work is still there.  I want to challenge us all to take the time and energy to move deeper in our walk with God, spending time with Him daily, creating as many moments in our day that we can that remind us of the presence of God.  This, after all, is what He made us for.
